I had an interesting experience playing last night... I ran into no less than 3 other male mesmers in the Amnoon Oasis (4 in total if you include myself). There couldn't have been more than about 10-15 players in the town at the time. Either that is dumb luck, or there are a lot more mesmers running around than most people are thinking.

In my experience the mesmer has never been a very popular class. This is not to say they aren't one of the most powerful classes, just that more players are attracted to the more straight-foward classes such as warrior.
Playing a mesmer effectively takes a good amount of thinking, many people in the GW community seem unable to put forth such effort.

I think my mesmer is doing fine. :>
The inspiration cut wasn't pleasant of course, but I still play my mesmer the most.

Ps. Terra is definately right about us having the best attires in game. XD

That is just so true, "why bother to use my head if I can blast or slice people straight" is just a pestilence in some people's mind.

I second that.
I think people usually prefer classes like Warriors, Eles, and Monks because they are "easier" (i.e., have a clear-cut roles like being a tank or healer). They steer clear from other *weird* classes (i.e., mesmer) because they don't know what to do OR because other people say "mesmer sucks".
I think this makes mesmers unpopular.
Which is good, because I'd rather have people underestimate me and be surprised... by my sucky PvP skills LOL
But anyway, mesmers aren't dying at all. They're just hiding I think

It becomes even more hilarious when that "easier" is actually inferior to their actual largest potential of the profession.

I don't know about you guys, but to me Mesmers are the funnest prof for PvE and PvP. Theres nothing better than seeing a monk stupid enough to keep healing itself with a nice big Backfire on it. And seeing that most people don't like having Mesmers in their groups, finishing Chapter 1 was a proud moment for me.
Also in Presear, there are actually alot more Mesmers now, I don't remember there being that much.

I posted before that the mesmer sure is dying, but now, after further evaluation, ive noticed that there are more mesmers than ritualists!!! Ive also been looking at ritualist threads and theyve been talking about how little of the population is ritualist... whenever i go into a town, there is literally NO ritualists at all!!! whoever thinks mesmers are dying, y dont you take a look at the rit and see which one has less players.

You know what the sad thing is... I mostly play both of these classes :S.
The ritualist is the least played class, it didn't make the hit it needed to when factions was released. Even with the assassin's negative comparison to Naruto, they're popular simply because of that, regardless of whether that class is good to play in PvE or not.
But making the judgement that Ritualists are dying is poor, they have always been in small numbers... dying? hardly. Just minutely stable^^.
After further evaluation huh? After reading your post, you made out as though Mesmers really were dying... BLASPHEMY!!! :P
Then again, I see at least one ritualist in every town I visit... not that I go around counting or anyting.

It's actually a really good pitch to get people interested in playing the Mesmer class... Females to be specific^^. I don't have regrets about making my dude though, he can strike poses brighter than the sun :P.

yes, after further evaluation, because when i first posted, i felt that they were really dying, but when i looked at how many rits there were compared to mesners, i realized that we are definetally NOT the least played class. I never said in that last post that i thought the mesmer was actually dying

i just want to notice somthing for the people who speak about the mesmer and who disagree that the mesmer is not been dead yet: just ask your self when did you see or play with a mesmer ? and do you see any group LF Mesmer, is it easy to find a group eather in PvP or PvE now for Mesmer ?
i think so maney of this people who is speaking about the mesmer eather use there mesmer as storage caracter or they do not play with it
just face it guys go to any where in the game and see if they are asking for mesmer or if they will accept you as mesmer they will say nicely ok mesmer is powerfull caracter and it is a nice caracter but will they take you NO

actually, YES i DO play my mesmer, he is my main character, and i use him all of the time. I like going back and redoing missions with him, and i get accepted into groups very fast. And no, most of the ppl that say they dont think theyr dying are not lying to you. They do play them. Maybe not all of teh time, but the way you stated it was as if mesmer players have no experience or something.... wats the deal, you prejudice against your own prof? (jk, jk)

Mesmers have always been staples of PvP. As Ensign said, there are only three classes in the game: Mesmers, Warriors and Monks.

Let me ask you a question...
Have YOU used a mesmer?
My main character is a mesmer and i still use her.
And those who do not take mesmers are... well... my guess is they're prejudiced or do not know what mesmers can actually do.

My main Caracter is Mesmer and that is the caracter that i started the game with. so it is as i said no one will take you coz most of the people think that the mesmer is not that GooD this is why you will not see that much mesmers in the game. and now let me ask you a quistion DO YOU PREFER A CARACTER THAT YOU CAN PLAY WITH OR A CARACTER THAT WILL MAKE YOU WATCH THE OTHERS PLAYING
and that is why we are complaning and it is not only me check the sites and you will find what i mean do you think all these people do not know how to play mesmer ? if the answer is NO. THEN WHY ARE THE SAYING THE SAME THING I AM SAYING

They also think Mending make them untouchable.
That view is absolutely, no-questions-asked ignorant.
For a quick example, Eurospike, a generally popular GvG build, has 2 mesmers in it.

In PvE, I will probably not take a mesmer in any party, unless there's a very specific reason I need one.
In PVP, they are gods. Some Eurospikes use 3 mesmers, too.
